Los Angeles – CA, May 25, 2009 – Model Nikki Giavasis wants to set the record straight regarding recent stories that have appeared on famed site TMZ.com and other gossip sites regarding Giavasis and her ex-boyfriend of four years, Raphael Shawn Brown of NEXT.

TMZ.com recently reported that one of Giavasis’ children is by convicted killer, ex-cop Bobby Cutts, which isn’t accurate. Giavasis has one child from a past five year relationship with basketball player, Shawn Kemp.

In addition, Giavasis only dated Cutts for four months in 1996. She ended the brief relationship when Cutts became possessive and jealous. Cutts then stalked her continuously for eleven years and it was Giavasis who tipped off a journalist who was reporting on Cutts’ girlfriend’s disappearance to look at Cutts because of her past experiences with Cutts.

Giavasis also wants to make it clear to everyone that her relationship with Brown is not the first case where Brown has been ordered to stay away from his partner. Brown has been married twice before and each relationship has ended in violence and stalking, which has led to Brown having two strikes against his record.

Brown’s most recent arrest came when he tracked Giavasis down by her Twitter page and was able to hack her account and tracked her by the GPS on her I Phone.

It was the night of May 8 that Brown located her at a friends place and began following her home. Giavasis noticed she was being followed and called the police because she felt she was in danger. The police picked up Brown as he was trying to enter Giavasis secure neighborhood.

Giavasis states that during her on again off again relationship with Brown, she invested $200,000 in Goldiggez and when Brown wrote her a check for $300,000 to pay her back with interest, the check bounced.

When Giavasis went to file a restraining order against Brown she brought the bounced check with her to the police station and it was mentioned in the order.

In addition, Giavasis says that during her four years with Brown, that she suffered mental and physical abuse. Giavasis states that Brown involved her in two major car crashes, one where he rear ended her in her car and the other where he crashed her car with her inside the vehicle (she is in the process of suing him for damages); both incidents were because Brown was angry at her and they were arguing.

There was also a past incident when they were arguing that Brown spat on Giavasis. She also states that his constant stalking forced her to move several times, but he would always find her and would break in.

Giavasis just wants to set the record straight and is hoping by responding to past inaccurate stories that she can lay the rumors to rest and move forward without being under public scrutiny.

She regrets her past mistakes and bad judgment in boyfriends and hopes that people can stop putting her in the spotlight and in the center of the bad behavior that these men have displayed.

*This article will be updated with further blogging*

Judge Pirro on Chris Brown’s Domestic Violence Case

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

Chris Brown is a batterer – - pure and simple. The beating of Rihanna last week leaves no doubt about it. Reports are that this delicate 20-year-old was violently beaten by Brown with his fists and that he choked her while threatening to kill her. She reportedly suffered a black eye, contusions on both sides of her forehead, a split lip, a bloody nose and bite marks on her hands. And I would bet my house that it wasn’t the first time he beat her.

Domestic violence curses all socioeconomic, ethnic and financial groups. Celebrities are not exempt. I know. I started one of the first domestic violence units in a prosecutors’ office in the nation in 1978 when I was a young prosecutor. At the time, people believed such barbarity occurred only in lower socioeconomic classes. That is because those were the only cases we heard about — where the police were called or the neighbors complained. Those in a higher economic stratum who lived in big homes were beaten and no one heard. They would go to their private physicians, see their therapists (as if they did something wrong), and deal with their grief in the quiet of their own homes. Makeup and turtlenecks were their cover.

But for the fact that this beating occurred in public we might not have heard about it. Because of this simple fact Chris Brown will not be able to get away with violence against his victim. Had this not occurred in public (albeit in a car) I can guarantee you that the next beating would have been worse. Violence increases in intensity and frequency as time goes on. If you’ve overlooked a push or a slap, it will likely happen again and be even worse. With sadness, I can say there were times when, as District Attorney, my staff and I felt a homicide would inevitably happen. And while I’m at it, Rihanna’s publicist’s absurd statement, “Rihanna is well. Thank you for your support” was disturbing at best. Talk about trying to sweep this event under the rug! When a suggestion is made that domestic violence did not happen, it does nothing more than empower the abuser and send a message that others who are beaten should hide in the shadows.

The only question that remains is whether Brown will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. Although he could ultimately face charges for both felony domestic battery and criminal threats, Los Angeles prosecutors have sent the case back to the police for further investigation citing insufficient evidence on the original criminal threats charge. My concern is that Brown will get away with it. It was reported that Brown actually had the unmitigated gall to say in his first released statement after the crime on his facebook: “You’ll begin to see her true colors. Believe it!” Only a coward would blame his victim.

Predictably, after one week, Chris Brown has said he’s “sorry’” HOGWASH!!!!! He’s only sorry that he got caught; that he couldn’t sing at the Grammy’s; that he’s been arrested and can go to jail; that he’s lost endorsements; that Jay Z, his victim’s mentor, will ostracize him in the music industry, if not worse. Hopefully Rihanna will not only refuse his pleas of forgiveness but will demand justice by example — not just for herself, but for every other battered woman who suffers the same fate in silence. Many times the victim gives the abuser “another chance,” choosing to minimize the horror in her life. Hope springs eternal but reality contradicts this wishful thinking. And if Rihanna chooses not to go forward with the prosecution of this batterer, the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office should do what I did 30 years ago –remind Rihanna that she is a witness for the prosecution and that the case is not being brought in her name, but in the name of the people of the state of California. It’s not her call.

Rihanna is in a unique, and yes, powerful position to lead by example.

A cocaine overdose killed legendary musician Ike Turner, the San Diego County medical examiner’s office said Wednesday morning.

“A high amount of cocaine” exacerbated the controversial rhythm and blues and rock pioneer’s hypertensive cardiovascular disease and pulmonary emphysema, a medical examiner’s spokesman said in explaining the cause of death. Turner died on Dec. 12 at the San Marcos home he rented.

Turner’s daughter, Mia, said Wednesday that the family was “in shock” at the medical examiner’s toxicity report, which was finalized Monday, and that it “overstates the situation.”

“Daddy at that point was not doing drugs to the level it leads to believe,” she said in a telephone interview.

She said her father’s drug use was “an ongoing struggle.”

“I know where he was the last seven or eight months (of his life),” Mia Turner said. “I know what he has accomplished in that battle.”

But one month ago, Mia Turner told the North County Times that the idea that her late father had drugs in his home at the time of his death was “an out and out” lie.

The drummer with Turner’s band, the Kings of Rhythm, was in the home when Turner was found. He said in December, before the medical examiner’s report was publicized, that he did not see drugs or paraphernalia.

“He was a man who knew he was going to pass away,” drummer Billy Ray said, “and if smoking bud or cocaine gave him solace in his final days, what difference would it be if he had a bottle of bourbon or Paxil?”

The 76-year-old singer, whose formidable musical legacy was overshadowed by his infamous abuse and mistreatment of one of his many ex-wives, pop star Tina Turner, was widely reported to have kicked cocaine in his later years. But his drug abuse was almost as legendary as his musical achievements.

When Ike and Tina Turner were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1991, Ike Turner was serving 18 months at the California Men’s Colony state prison in San Luis Obispo for a parole violation after 11 drug-related arrests.

In Turner’s autobiography, he estimated that he had spent $11 million to support his cocaine habit in the 1970s and 1980s. As with so much about the man’s legend, conflicting stories abound about when he first tried the drug. But he told a Chicago Tribune reporter in 1991, “I used to fire people if I caught them with even a roach, and now I got a hole in my nose that you could put your ink pen in.”

Drug allegations also figure in a court struggle between Turner’s most recent of many wives —- accounts, often supplied by Turner himself, vary widely about how many wives he had over his tumultuous life —- and his children.

Turner’s would-be heirs are feuding over a modest estate that court documents say amounts to $200,000, and lawyers are contending with a contradictory set of handwritten wills purportedly penned by Turner.

Turner’s place in music history is secure. Born in Clarksdale, Miss., in 1931, Turner was a musical mover-and-shaker in the world of blues music by his teens, with a popular DJ gig and working as a talent scout for major record labels.

He learned at the feet of blues legends like Pinetop Perkins and played guitar and piano with Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon and B.B. King while before his mid-20s.

In 1951, Turner’s band, the Kings of Rhythm, recorded what is widely considered the first rock ‘n’ roll song, “Rocket 88,” though the label issued what would become a hit song under the singer’s name, Jackie Brenston.

But Tina Turner’s 1986 autobiography and the 1993 film based upon it, “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” portrayed Ike as a violent thug. The movie’s popularity and salacious details became a pivotal moment in American culture, spurring public interest in solving the often-hidden problem of domestic violence.

Turner contended that he was mischaracterized in the book and film, and told a North County Times reporter last year, “I’m not the person that they made me in the movie.”

But he also wrote in his 2001 autobiography “Taking Back My Name,” “Sure, I’ve slapped Tina. … We had fights and there have been times when I punched her without thinking. But I never beat her. I did no more to Tina than I would mind somebody doing to my mother in the same circumstances.”

On Wednesday, Turner’s daughter said she hoped that people would remember that her father was “an icon, a major contributor to the industry,” rather than the drugs or the violence.

“I don’t want anybody dwelling on the movie status, this quote unquote autopsy,” Mia Turner said. “So what. They need to dwell on the positive influences. The negative does not define us.”

(WOMENSENEWS)–James Brown, the “Godfather of Soul,” was back in jail on criminal domestic violence charges just two months after the prestigious John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., awarded Brown a lifetime achievement award. He received the honor despite the protests of women’s rights advocates who claim that Brown’s history of domestic violence and sexual harassment should have disqualified him for the award.

Brown, 70, was released on bail on Jan. 29. He faces a maximum penalty of a $500 fine and 30 days in jail for allegedly pushing his 34-year-old wife, Tomi Rae Brown, during an argument on Jan. 28 at the couple’s home in Beech Island, S.C. His trial is scheduled for later this month. Brown’s lawyers have requested a jury trial and jury selection may push the trial date back to March or April.

Albert “Buddy” Dallas, Brown’s Georgia-based attorney, said that Brown was “absolutely not” guilty of beating Tomi Rae Brown, a back-up singer. “It’s just amazing to me that these little differences that men and women have–and it happens everyday–if you’re a celebrity it makes the headlines,” Dallas told Women’s eNews in a telephone interview.

Dr. Carolyn West, who holds a Ph.D. in clinical psychology and is an author on domestic violence in black communities, called Brown’s recent arrest and the award an “opportunity for us as a community to come together and start talking about domestic violence and sexual assault.”

But, she said, the black community maybe reluctant to criticize famous and powerful black men out of fear of reinforcing stereotypes that blacks are inherently violent. “How do you talk about these issues without reinforcing these stereotypes?” West asked, “But we can’t not talk about it.”

Since his arrest, Brown has filed for an annulment, claiming that Tomi Rae Brown remains married to another man. Dallas says that Brown performed with his wife last night in New York City.

Brown Honored Despite Violent History

“I wasn’t surprised. I knew it was coming,” Kay Mixon, a battered woman’s advocate in South Carolina who counseled Brown’s late wife, Adrienne Brown, told Women’s eNews.

Mixon met Adrienne Brown, at an emergency room in 1995. “She was all beat up,” Mixon recalled. Mixon urged Brown’s third wife to seek refuge at a shelter. But she refused and Mixon drove her home.

“That was the last time I ever talked with her,” Mixon said. Adrienne Brown died two months later apparently the result of complications from plastic surgery.

James Brown was charged with spousal abuse at least three times during their 10-year marriage, but those charges were dropped. Adrienne Brown met Kay Mixon after a beating she received on Halloween night in 1995. Those charges were dropped when Adrienne Brown died January 6, 1996.

When the Kennedy Center Honors were announced last August, Mixon joined the chorus of women’s rights advocates who protested Brown’s award. “Mr. Brown received the Kennedy Center Honors for his lifetime achievement in the arts for his music,” Tiki Davies, vice president for press with the Kennedy Center, told Women’s eNews.

“That is really sad. Your private life goes along with who you are, and what he is is not acceptable,” said Mixon, “He is a violent man.”

The awards ceremony took place on Dec. 7 and was attended by President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush. Brown attended with Tomi Rae Brown. Rev. Al Sharpton, a Democratic presidential candidate, joined Brown and his wife.

Women Accuse Brown of Assault, Intent to Kill, Harassment

In September 1988, Brown carried a shotgun into an insurance seminar, briefly held it hostage, and then led police on a multi-state highway chase, for which Brown was fined $6,000 and sentenced to 6 years in prison. He was paroled after two years.

Months before that incident, Brown was charged with assault and intent to kill after being accused of savagely beating Adrienne Brown with a mop handle and firing a rifle into the car she was driving. Adrienne Brown later dropped those charges.

“This man has worked very diligently to turn his reputation around,” said Debra Opri, Brown’s West Coast lawyer, when asked about the incidents by Women’s eNews. Opri characterized Brown as a quiet Southern gentleman. “He’s very determined to let people know the real James Brown,” she said.

Mixon thinks that the real James Brown is a wife batterer. “The real James Brown is not that man that curls his hair, and puts on the make-up, and puts on the clothes,” she said. “The real James Brown is the one you saw in that mug shot,” referring to a widely distributed police photograph in which Brown looked extremely disheveled.

In the years following his release from prison, charges of sexual harassment dogged the performer. Lisa Agbalaya, a former employee of Brown’s, sued Brown in 2000 for sexual harassment and wrongful termination. A divided jury failed to find against Brown on the harassment charges, but ruled that Agbalaya was wrongfully terminated in retaliation for a formal complaint of harassment she filed against Brown.

The judgment ordered his company, the New James Brown Enterprises, Inc., to pay $40,000 to Agbalaya in March of 2002. So far, the judgment has not been paid, said Matthew Herrell, one of Agbalaya’s lawyers.

In August 2000, Lisa Rushton, a former backup singer for Brown, filed sexual harassment charges against Brown, alleging that the performer demanded sex from her beginning in 1994. She says that when she refused, Brown retaliated by cutting her from performances and reducing her pay. Those charges were dismissed, according to Dallas.

Bobby Brown will have to go on trial on charges of slapping Whitney Houston, a judge ruled Wednesday, according to the Associated Press. No trial date was set, and a court clerk said it could be as long as a year before it takes place, a court clerk told AP. The singer, who was warned on Wednesday not to have ”violent contact” with Houston, will have to turn himself in for fingerprinting in July, and submit $2,000 in bail.

Brown and Houston smiled at each other in court, and left the hearing together, according to AP. Brown’s charges stem from Dec. 7, when Houston claimed that Brown ”struck the left side of her face with an open right hand,” a police report said. Brown has denied the charges, telling Dateline NBC that if he had really hit Houston, ”It would be more than just a little cut on the lip.”

BROWN BLASTS DOMESTIC ABUSE RUMOURS

BOBBY BROWN has denied he was violent towards ex-wife WHITNEY HOUSTON during their stormy marriage.
The couple’s 15-year union, which ended in 2007, was peppered with reports of Houston calling the police following furious arguments with her husband.
But although Brown admits he often lost his temper with the singer, he denies he ever struck her.
He tells MTV.com, “I mean, I’m guilty of getting upset and flying off the handle a little. I was known to throw a bottle or two at a wall or something. Things that I’d regret, I would be responsible for cleaning up or having the wall repaired.
“What people fail to realise is that Whitney is no punk. She definitely knows how to handle and defend herself in situations that could have potentially been violent. Some of the stories in the media made me out to be like Ike Turner, when that wasn’t my character.”

Bobby Brown blames Whitney Houston for his drug use

U.S. singer Bobby Brown claims in his forthcoming autobiography that he only started using cocaine after he met his ex-wife Whitney Houston.

Brown — whose music career has been overshadowed in recent years by his legal woes and battles with substance abuse — also claims in “Bobby Brown: The Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing But …” that his marriage to Houston was “doomed from the very beginning” because her goal was to get married and pregnant to “kill all speculation” about her sexuality.

The book is due for release June 1, but excerpts were leaked to the New York Post and E! News confirmed with the book’s publisher that the quotes were accurate.

The couple, who have a 15-year-old daughter, divorced last year.

“I spend my time on Crimewatch appealing for criminals on the run. Domestic violence is one of the few crimes I can think of where the victim is often forced to go on the run. I wanted to take part in this campaign, not only to support the work of Women’s Aid, but hopefully to make people stop and think. Domestic violence is the most common of crimes, with two women are killed every week in England and Wales. When are we going to say that enough is enough?”

“From first hearing about this marvellous campaign, I knew that I wanted to be involved. Domestic violence can be so easy for people to ignore, as it often happens without any witnesses and it is sometimes easier not to get involved. Yet, by publicly speaking outagainst domestic violence, together we can challenge attitudestowards violence in the home and show that domestic violence is a crime and not merely unacceptable.”

“We all like to think that if we were the victims of domestic abuse we’d up and leave – but it’s not always as easy or straightforward as that. Women stay with abusive partners for all kinds of reasons – they love them, they fear them, they have children with them, they believe they can change them or they simply have no where else to go.

Women trapped in violent relationships need to know that there’s no shame in talking out and walking out on their abusive partners and hopefully this campaign will serve to inform women that if they need help, it is available to them. Women’s Aid provides a lifelineand a way out of a dark and destructive relationship. Information and knowledge is power and I really hope that by highlighting the work Women’s Aid does it will empower women who are being abused by the partners to find the courage and the way out they so desperately need.”

Rihanna and Chris Brown at the MTV Movie Awards in Los Angeles. Photograph: Matt Sayles/AP

‘Domestic violence … affected me, especially towards women, I treat them differently. Because I don’t want to go through the same thing or put a woman through the same thing that that person put my mom through.”

Thus spoke R&B singer Chris Brown when he appeared on The Tyra Banks Show in 2007, discussing the abuse his family allegedly suffered at the hands of his stepfather.

Two years later, Brown, still just 19 years old, marched himself into a Los Angeles police station. He had allegedly beaten up his girlfriend, fellow singer Rihanna, so badly that, according to reports in the US press, she has “horrific” facial injuries and bite marks on her arms. The two had been due to perform at the Grammy awards. Instead, Rihanna went to hospital (she has since left) and cancelled her upcoming tour. Brown has hired the lawyer Mark Geragos, best known for defending Michael Jackson against charges of child abuse.

The internet, of course, has gone to town on this story, with the celebritygossip websites competing for who can posit the most tasteless – and irrelevant – theory about what prompted the alleged attack, and who can get the most invasive video of Brown or Rihanna since it happened. Other more serious websites are attempting to fashion Rihanna into a tragic female icon, while simultaneously berating her about rumours that she may not press charges against her boyfriend. It’s hard to think how one can worsen a situation where a woman is said to have been so badly beaten by her partner, yet the internet has managed to do just that, and one can only feel enormous sympathy for Rihanna for not only going through this but having to do so in such a public fashion. One also, to a certain extent, feels sympathy for Brown, who clearly has some very sad issues to deal with himself.

Given that this is a very personal tragedy, involving two young lives, it might seem irrelevant to ask how it will affect their careers. Comments from people such as Tracy Ford, editor of hip-hop websiteTheBoombox.com, certainly spark that response, though, including his reported suggestion to Yahoo! news that this incident “might actually help Rihanna … She’s definitely being viewed as the victim at this point.” Good career move, babe!

But in regards to Brown, the question has wider interest: is being accused of spousal abuse actually detrimental to a man’s career? He has already suffered some professional setbacks, with Wrigley chewing gum dropping him from its campaign. Will his brand be dented further?

Looking at other men in the public eye who have been accused of offences against women, the truth is that, in the long run, it probably does no more, or even less, damage to their careers than if they were caught with drugs – a point that swimmer Michael Phelps, who has just been suspended for three months after being photographed smoking the decidedly non-performance-enhancing drug cannabis, might ruefully note.

For instance, the actor Josh Brolin’s late career bloom was apparently unimpeded by an incident in 2004 when he was arrested at 3am after his wife, actress Diane Lane, called the police, claiming that he was attacking her. She later declined to press charges. Similarly, there have been flutters around Sean Connery’s oft-repeated claims that “it’s not that bad” to hit women (“If you’ve tried everything else … then I think it’s absolutely right,” he elaborated in an interview with Barbara Walters). But Connery is still a much-beloved actor, who regularly gets described as a “national treasure”.

The sporting industry has a long history of ignoring the black eyes and broken arms of athletes’ wives and girlfriends. Yes, Paul Gascoigne was vilified after blacking the eyes, bruising the face and dislocating the fingers of his then wife, as was Stan Collymore after punching his then girlfriend Ulrika Jonsson in the face. Yet both continued to have sporting and TV careers and the only reason Gascoigne’s football career ended was due to his own deteriorating physicality, as opposed to that of his battered wife, Sheryl.

This has become such a problem in US sports that the feminist websitejezebel.com recently posted an article despairing of how the National Football League’s two most celebrated players, Larry Fitzgerald and Santonio Holmes, have been accused of extremely violent domestic assaults, but no one in the American press is talking about it. Fitzgerald’s former partner once filed for a protection order stating that he hit her head against a marble floor and she lost “chunks of her hair” in the assault. As for Holmes, in 2006 he was accused of “choking [his girlfriend], throwing her into the ground and slamming her into a door”. The charges were dropped and Holmes went to a treatment centre.

But perhaps the most unexpected instances of forgiveness come when famous men are accused of involvement with young girls, as evidenced by the world’s apparent amnesia about Bill Wyman’s past, a man who started dating 13-year-old Mandy Smith when he was 47 (they eventually married). Roman Polanski may have been exiled by America but accusations that he drugged and had sex with a 13-year-old girl have never really bothered his adopted home of France and he has been enjoying a veritable career renaissance of late – not that he ever stopped working anyway.

Then there’s the R&B singer R Kelly, who has a truly remarkable tendency to respond to all manner of charges against him via his album titles and song lyrics. There were the long-running rumours that he married fellow singer Aaliyah when he was 27 and she was an inconveniently underage 15. Both denied this although they didn’t exactly help themselves by titling her debut album – which they worked on together – Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number. He has repeatedly faced charges for possession of child pornography, and the parents of a 14-year-old girl accused him of raping their daughter, urinating on her and videotaping it. His response was to release a single that included the memorable line, “So shower down on me, wet me with your love.” As this paper’s Alexis Petridis wrote in 2007 in a review of Kelly’s album, Double Up, “Anyone else pleading not guilty to 14 sex crimes might think twice about presenting themselves as a ‘freak’ enchained by their own insatiable desires.” After six years, those charges were dropped. It seems almost superfluous to chuck in at this point that Kelly was also served with an emergency protective order by his then wife in 2006. He is currently one of the most successful R&B singers in the world.

One could point out that quite a few of the charges listed above were later dropped. Yet compare the fates of these men with the way that Michael Jackson’s career has gone into freefall since he was first accused of child sex abuse against a boy in 1993, even though he was never actually charged in this initial case. Kelly, on the other hand, continues to work with Beyonce, Jay-Z and Kanye West. In a strange way, it seems that women might be the unwitting victims of the media’s homophobia: a man and a little boy – well, that’s just disgusting; a man and a little girl – well, at least you can see where the dude was coming from.

Anyone who hurts another person, particularly someone physically weaker than them, is an abuser and everyone – the media, fans, even football coaches – knows this. But sometimes, particularly when huge sums of money are at stake, this seems an inconvenient truth. Only time will tell how much the public and record company think Rihanna’s facial injuries are worth.

PSA filmed by actress Keira Knightley (See video here, TRIGGER WARNING) . The video is shocking but effective and adds Keira Knightley to a list of celebrities that have spoken out against domestic violence. Celebrities like Reese Witherspoon, Bonnie Raitt, Harrison Ford, Tori Amos, Salma Hayek, and Christina Aguilera have used their celebrity status to send a message of anti-abuse to the public.

Unfortunately, celebrities are not always linked with domestic violence because of their positive, proactive work on the issue. R&B artist Chris Brown may be the most recent celebrity charged with domestic violence, but he is not alone. Mike Tyson, Dennis Rodman, and Bobby Brown are just a few of our most famed who have been arrested for domestic violence or rape at some point in their life. The list goes on and on. But what happens to these celebrities?

What do you think SHOULD happen to celebrities that are found guilty of domestic violence or admit to abusive behavior? Should they be pulled from shows, advertisements, suspended from games, etc.? Do you think current punishments are enough or should more/less happen?

Also, how would you like to see the public react to celebrity domestic violence? Do you think people should refuse to support abusive celebrities (not buying albums, etc.) or do you think the personal life of a celebrity is separate from their career?

Survivor I winner Richard Hatch was found guilty in September 2001, of domestic assault. Hatch was sentenced to one year of probation for an August incident in which he allegedly shoved his ex-boyfriend, Glenn Boyanowski, down a flight of stairs.

Riddick Bowe
In February 2001, former heavyweight boxing champion Riddick Bowe was arrested and charged with third-degree assault for a fight with his wife, Terri Bowe. Police arrived at the Bowe house on Long Island and found Terri Bowe “suffering from cuts and bruises,” according to the Associated Press. Riddick Bowe pleaded innocent to charges of assaulting his wife, and was released from jail on $2,500 bail. The AP reports that the couple is “splitting up after a very brief marriage.” Bowe was arrested again in March 2003 on a domestic violence charge of second-degree assault, less than one week before he was scheduled to begin serving a prison sentence for abducting his first wife, Judy, and their five children. Bowe was arrested after Prince Georges County police responded to a domestic disturbance call. Bowe’s current wife, Terri, was taken to the hospital, but her injuries “were not believed to be serious” according to the Washington Post. Bowe is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence for the 1998 abduction of his first wife.

James Brown
In February 2004, singer James Brown was arrested and charged with criminal domestic violence for allegedly shoving his wife, Tomi Rae Brown, to the ground and threatening her with a chair. Tomi Rae Brown suffered scratches and bruises and was taken to a hospital in Augusta for treatment. Brown denied the charges and was released from jail. In 1988, Brown was charged with assaulting his then-wife Adrienne, but the charges were dropped when she refused to testify against him. When Brown was honored by the Kennedy Center for his musical career, there were protests from many domestic violence organizations for his awards.

Eminem (Marshal Mathers)
For several years, we were always hearing about Eminem and his wife, Kim. Their relationship seems like it has never been a happy one. One of them is always hitting the other. I found this report as well when looking up information on him and his wife. Apparently one of his nieces and sister-in-law accused him of domestic violence as well. Many womens organizations have protested and made interviews about how Eminem’s songs may influence people especially young men and boys to go out and hurt their spouses, girlfriends, and mothers. He defends himself time and again saying he is against domestic violence and rape yet a lot of his songs deal with hurting Kim or his mother. I can understanding venting your frustrations about these 2 women in his life, but does he have to do it in such a public manner? Eminem, get a journal and keep it locked up.

Evel Knievel
On October 9, 1994, former motorcycle daredevil Evel Knievel was arrested for allegedly battering a woman. Due to lack of evidence, the domestic violence charges were dropped but he was charged with possession of a handgun that was found in his car during the arrest. Knievel pleaded innocent to violating the gun law.

Tracy Lawrence
In January 1998, country music singer Tracy Lawrence was convicted of abusing his estranged wife, who accused Lawrence of hitting her and making death threats after his September 12, 1997 concert. Lawrence acknowledged he slapped her but denied punching her.

Harry Morgan
In July 1997, spousal abuse charges against M*A*S*H star Harry Morgan were dropped after he completed a six-month domestic violence counseling program. Morgan was charged with abusing his wife in July 1996 after an argument that left his wife with injuries to her eye, foot and arm.

David Hasselhoff
In recent news, the story of how David Hasselhoff reportedly was very abusive to his now ex-wife. All of the records pertaining to the case have been sealed to protect the couples children. The only public information is how her request for a restraining order was denied. The judge in the just told them to stay away from each other.

Teri Hatcher
One of the stars of Desperate Housewives, Teri Hatcher, recently revealed that she was sexually abused as a child by her uncle. Her story shows how abuse as a child can affect your adult life years later. In an interview with Vanity fair, Teri spoke of what happened. Her book reveals how she couldn’t have intimate relations with her ex-husband while they were married. I watched Oprahs interview with her after the book was released. Teri said she knew the exact date her daughter was conceived because that was the only day that year that she had sex with her husband.
